Strategic Focus for Surveys: Roles « Back

Adopting a strategic focus for your surveys and evaluation calls for a range of skills and collaborative activity.

It also means that at various stages of the survey process the administrator performs a variety of roles:

a) Plan
Approach the commission and planning stage as TEAM LEADER to manage various stakeholder interests and expectations as well as generate confidence in the process and outcomes.

b) Design
Approach the question design stage as GATEKEEPER to ensure that other agendas ("while we are there") do not creep into the bank of survey questions and that questions are framed appropriately.

Approach the survey communication design as MARKETER to maximize survey returns by making it easy, attractive and important for respondents to complete.

c) Collect
Approach the coding of open-ended responses as CURATOR to ensure that the integrity and intention of respondent answers are accurately represented in codes.

d) Report
Approach the conduct and results of the survey as BROKER to compile a report that is fair, comprehensive and balanced.
